Infusion Centers
There are some Infusion Centers in Philly, some of whom may be covered by your insurance company. In order to be eligible you need to be able to say that you have a history of depression and have tried at least two anti-depressants. Infusions are the most tested as per the molecule itself, and at 2 times a week, for 4 to 6 weeks, your physician will have a good sense by week 4 if the medicine will help with a reduction of your depression symptoms. This is a really good option for folks with treatment resistant depressions.
Upsides to Infusion Centers:
- Often covered by insurance
- Medical monitoring, which is not necessary, but can be a comfort to some
- Most tested/documented as successful treatment for the benefits of the molecule itself
Unfortunately the sessions are less than ideal for the trip itself (which again, isn’t necessary to gain benefit from the molecule/medicine, but which is an added benefit). It is a distracting environment, with lots of medical monitoring and chit chatting staff. Infusion centers are not focused on the therapeutic value of the trip and are ill-equip to aid the participant in doing work related to the experience of the trip.
Full Living works with a local infusion center, and can provide you with on-site and off-site services to facilitate a more conducive environment and more fruitful opportunities for therapeutic growth.
Downsides to Infusion Centers:
- The trip itself is a hard space to get into in the infusion center setting as distraction are at an all time high.
- You will need to have a separate plan for how to prepare for and integrate sessions. Full Living can help you coordinate this.
- You will need to schedule the sessions, which are time-consuming (about 60 to 90 minutes), twice a week during daytime hours and have a means to get to and from the sessions as you can not drive immediately following a session.
Prescription for Lozenges
Ketamine can be administered multiple ways. One is lozenges that can then be taken at home or in a psychotherapysetting. This allows for a psychedelic assisted therapy model. The setting can be controlled to reduce distractions and increase a sense of calm. The client/patient can have their therapist present to help support them through the process, or a friend who has been prepped for supporting them.
Full Living offers psychedelic assisted therapy. We can also help to support you in prepping a friend and yourself for a self-guided medicine session.
Psychiatric or Medical Prescriber
Getting a prescription for lozenges can happen in a few ways. If you have Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Nurse, Personal Care Physician (PCP), Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant you already work with, you could discuss it with them to see if they are willing to be a prescriber. Truthfully a lot of folx are still really uncomfortable considering this medication.
Full Living can support you by speaking to your medical professional about the prescription, or can refer you to a prescriber if yours is not open to providing you the prescription.
On Line Lozenge Providers
There are several online companies that provide evaluations and prescriptions for at home use, which can then be used with a psychotherapist or for a self-directed session. Here are two such programs, but there are many. Listing them here is not an endorsement of their services.
Mindbloom: cost $1200, can include a monthly payment plan.
- Includes a medical prescribing consultation.
- Ketamine for 6 or more sessions sent to your door.
- Online/video/phone/text/group support with guides helping you make the most of your experience. While not therapists, they attempt to offer a full service program for folx who feel safe taking psychedelics without a clinical presence.
- Access to lots of well curated resources, articles, music, and written guides to support you through meaningful therapeutic process.
Smith Family Medicine: cost $250 a month
- Includes a medical prescribing consultation.
- Ketamine for 10 sessions a month sent to your pharmacy or door until you cancel.
- They provide no other therapeutic resources but rather encourage you to have that arranged elsewhere.
