Psychedelic Clinical Education

Full Living and The Ko-op

We have joined resources to offer two opportunities for clinicians interested in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Clinicians Can Try Psychedelics Too! Learn by Doing…in the case, Ketamine!

This May we are offering Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to therapists in person in Center City Philadelphia and remotely (over Zoom) throughout Pennsylvania. This is a brief (two-session) treatment for clinicians who meet the psychiatric criteria to receive KAP. More details below.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Practical Implementation Instruction, Supervision and Practicum

This April we begin a 6-week Practicum to support therapists in providing KAP to their own client. Virtual group training provides a step-by-step guide that will leave clinicians feeling confident in bringing their own patients into a live supervised practicum experience. More details are below.

Opportunity 1 Beginning this March 2023: Clinicians Can Try Psychedelics Too! Learn by Doing… in the case, Ketamine!

Group Ketamine Experience for Mental Health Professionals

For clinicians interested in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, the place to start is with your own direct experience with the medicine as a client. A medicine journey provides clinicians with firsthand insight into how powerful this medicine can be and ways to make therapeutic use of the experience.

Whether clinicians want to be able to support their clients in accessing psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy with other clinicians, or eventually offer and integrate this into their clinical work in becoming a Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapist, this is an opportunity to experience the medicine alongside other interested colleagues.

Full Living and The Ko-op have joined resources to create this opportunity for therapists. We are offering this group KAP treatment to therapists in person in Center City Philadelphia and remotely (over Zoom). This is a brief (two-session) treatment for clinicians who meet the psychiatric criteria to receive KAP.

Protocol for the experience will include:

  • A 30-minute virtual medical and psychiatric assessment. (The fee for the Medical Evaluation is $250.00 and this includes Participants' sublingual ketamine lozenges for the two dosing sessions).
  • A Virtual Q&A Preparation Session (1hr)
  • Medicine Session Including Group Preparation and Integration (3.5hr)
  • Virtual Integration session (1hr)
  • Medicine Session Including Group Preparation and Integration (3.5hr)
  • Closing Virtual Integration session including next professional options (1hr)

Commitment

This is a closed group, meaning that the same members will participate each time and it will not be open to any new members for the duration of the series. Group participants will need to commit to the entire series.

Other Questions

What if I have a bad experience?

While we cannot guarantee what sort of experience you will have during the ketamine session, some people do have challenging experiences. We will be present to support you through the dosing session. Even though the experience may be challenging, it may also bring to light important issues to address during integration.

What additional support options might be available?

For those who wish to continue working after the group is over, we will work with you to ensure that you are connected to another psychotherapist who is trained in ketamine to work with you individually.

Are people required to be in therapy for this experience?

There is no prerequisite to be in therapy to join the group, however, we require all participants to be connected with some mental health resources that they can access for support after the completion of the program. This can include an individual therapist, group therapy, psychiatrist, coach, etc. since after the group, we will not be able to provide ongoing clinical support. We will offer referral resources for people who are interested in additional treatment.

Can I join with a friend?

We will evaluate friends who wish to join on a case-by-case basis. While this may work, issues may arise in group cohesion and we may ask friends to separate.

What kinds of indications would make me a good fit for the group?

You might be fit for the group if you are working through depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD and other clinical diagnoses. Some people may require a higher level of care, and during the initial assessment interview, we will determine whether we are able to accommodate you in the group.

Oppurtunity 2 Beginning the APRIL 2023: Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Practical Implementation Instruction, Supervision and Practicum

In our work with Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy we have noticed that many clinicians participate in expensive and extended training only to be left anxious and uncertain about how to facilitate their own KAP sessions with clients. The intention of the KAP Practicum is to support therapists directly in providing KAP to their own client. The 6-week virtual training provides a step-by-step guide that will leave clinicians feeling confident to bring their own client into a supervised practicum experience at the Ko-Op.

Components

  • We will meet by Zoom weekly to provide psychoeducation on best practices for taking a client START to FINISH through Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.
  • You will facilitate two KAP treatments with your own client at the Ko-Op with onsite supervision.

Credentialing

NASW-PA Chapter is a co-sponsor of this workshop. 9 CEs will be awarded for completion of this course. NASW has been designated as a pre-approved provider of professional continuing education for social workers (Section 47.36), Marriage and Family Therapist (Section 48.36) and Professional Counselors (Section 49.36) by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.

Experiential Component

We do not offer an experiential component as part of this practicum. If you are interested in experiencing the medicine in a KAP context, please check out our Group Ketamine Experience for Mental Health Professionals above.

When and Where

We are excited to help onboard a new group of clinicians for this exciting work. If you have colleagues who may be interested as well, this is the time to get them on board.

The total cost of Training + Practicum = $2,500. The fee can be paid in 3 installments. We also have scholarships available. For those interested let us know if you are applying for 50% or 75% cost so we can put you on our waiting list.
